Where DET is accepted — the short version for every major destination
Acceptance for admission and acceptance for a visa are two different decisions. Get this table straight before you commit to a destination.

Wherever you are applying, do two things: search Duolingo’s official accepting-institutions directory for your university, and email the admissions office to confirm the overall and subscore minimum in writing. Schedule and recordings
Classes are live on Zoom, and every lecture is uploaded the same day as a lesson recording you can review, so you can follow from wherever you are in the world. We send the exact schedule of the next round on WhatsApp. Students far from Cairo — in Australia, East Asia and on the US West Coast — usually take the private 1-on-1 course instead and pick their own hours.
What the test actually is
The Duolingo English Test takes about an hour — roughly 45 minutes of adaptive questions that get harder or easier as you answer, then a 10–15 minute Writing and Speaking sample which is sent to the institutions you select.
Scoring runs from 10 to 160 in 5-point steps. You get four subscores — Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation, Production — plus four skill scores for Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Your overall score is the average of the four core subscores, rounded up to the nearest 5. Scores are valid for two years, and you may take up to three certified tests in any 30-day period.

Choosing your target score for your universities
Decide your number before anything else. For Arabic speakers applying abroad, the number almost always comes from one specific programme page, and the rest of the plan follows from it.

Read the subscore line as carefully as the overall number: a result of 120 with Production at 95 is refused by plenty of departments that would have taken a 115 with everything even. Aim about five points above the published minimum, send us the programme link on WhatsApp, and we will read the admission page with you before you commit to a date.

Class times are set per round — message us on WhatsApp for the next round’s details. Everything is included: live teaching, lesson recordings you can review, homework corrected personally, personal Speaking and Writing correction, full mock tests, and WhatsApp support throughout.
Paying from abroad is simple. We accept Visa and Mastercard (and Meeza inside Egypt), plus InstaPay for Egyptian accounts. If a first international charge is blocked by a fraud filter, approve it in your banking app and retry. Some banks — Turkish ones especially — disable international online payments by default and need you to switch them on. If anything fails, message us on WhatsApp and we will send you international transfer options. The Duolingo exam itself is booked separately, directly with Duolingo.
Why Arabic-language support helps you specifically
Most of our students abroad already speak good English. They study in it, work in it, argue with landlords in it. So the honest question is: why would explanation in Arabic help at all?
Because the marks you are losing are not English marks. They are first-language habits, and they show up in the same four places for nearly every Arabic speaker:
- Speaking that runs out of content. Answers stop at forty seconds because the idea was formed in Arabic and translated live, instead of being built directly in English from a rehearsed structure.
- Writing that reads as a chain, not an argument. Coordinated clauses stacked with and, so, also — natural in Arabic rhetoric, mid-scoring in DET, which rewards one developed idea with support.
- Articles and prepositions dropped under pressure. Small, repeated, and directly visible to the scoring model.
- Read Aloud rushed. The eye is trained to read for gist, so sentences are delivered fast and flat, costing pronunciation and fluency marks.
Naming those in Arabic takes two minutes. Working around them in an English-only class takes weeks. That is the entire edge: our instructors teach in English, and drop into Arabic exactly when the strategy, the scoring logic or your personal error analysis needs it — while every exam term (Read Aloud, Interactive Writing, Speak About the Photo, Summarize the Conversation, Writing Sample) stays in English.

For parents in Egypt or the Gulf paying for a child abroad
A large share of our students abroad are enrolled and paid for by a parent still in Egypt or the Gulf. We have made that deliberately simple.
- You can pay from anywhere. InstaPay or a local card from Egypt; Visa or Mastercard from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan or anywhere else after you message us on WhatsApp. Ask on WhatsApp for international transfer options and we will confirm the enrolment directly to you.
- Talk to the teacher before you pay. Our certified instructors teach every session. Send the university name and the score on the offer letter and they will tell you honestly whether the standard round is enough, whether the intensive course fits the exam date, or whether the private course is the better choice.
- You can see the work. Attendance, recordings, homework and corrected Speaking and Writing all come back to the student, and you can ask us for a progress update on WhatsApp any time.
- Check the country rule first. A DET score is no use if the destination does not accept it. Australia’s student visa does not; several Turkish universities do not; some German programmes do not. Can I join from any country?

Why does Arabic-language support matter if I already live in English?
Because the marks Arabic speakers lose are first-language habits — short Speaking answers, chained clauses in Writing, dropped articles, rushed Read Aloud — and those are diagnosed and fixed far faster in your own language. Teaching is in English and all exam terminology stays in English.

Is the Duolingo English Test accepted everywhere?
It is accepted by more than 6,000 institutions worldwide for admission, but not for every visa route — it is not accepted for the Australian subclass 500 visa and is not a UK SELT. Always check your university and your visa route separately.
What score should I aim for?
Around 95–105 for many bachelor programmes, 110–120 for most universities and 120–130 for competitive or graduate programmes. Check your programme’s subscore minimums too, not just the overall.
How long do I need to prepare?
Most of our students reach their target with focused, structured preparation. If your exam is in a few days, take the intensive course — the same content in fewer days with more hours a day.
What if I miss a live session?
Every session is recorded the same day and you can review it whenever you need, and you can ask our team anything on WhatsApp between sessions.
