Key DET facts before you book
Scores run 10–160 in 5-point steps, with 4 subscores (Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation, Production) and 4 skill scores (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking). Results are valid for 2 years, and the exam takes about an hour.
The DET is accepted by 6,000+ institutions worldwide, with strong coverage across universities in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Ireland — but it is not accepted for the Australian subclass 500 visa and it is not a UKVI SELT, and Canada’s SDS route was discontinued in November 2024, so the regular study permit applies and your institution decides what English evidence it needs.
