Who the private course is for

One-to-one is the right choice if:

• Your availability clashes with the group round because of work, study or a large time difference from where you live.
• You are aiming high — 120–130 for competitive or graduate programmes — and the gap sits in one or two skills only.
• You have taken the test more than once and want an individual assessment rather than more general revision.
• Speaking makes you anxious and you would rather practise without a group listening.
• Your skills are uneven — strong reading, weak speaking, for example — so a group pace would waste half your time.
• You want targeted drilling on timing and strategy with immediate correction after every attempt.

What you will learn

We start with a short assessment — Speaking, Writing and a sample of question types — to locate exactly where marks are lost, then shape the plan around the result: longer on what you need, faster through what you already do well.

The course covers every DET question type with a clear strategy, practical drills, personal Speaking and Writing correction, and a full mock test before the real exam.

• Reading — Read and Select, Fill in the Blanks, Read and Complete and Interactive Reading, and how to keep control of your time inside them.
• Listening — Listen and Type, Interactive Listening and Summarize the Conversation: catching detail first time.
• Speaking — Read Aloud, Speak About the Photo, Read Then Speak, Listen Then Speak and the Speaking Sample, corrected as you speak.
• Writing — Write About the Photo, Interactive Writing and the Writing Sample: structure, range and accuracy under the clock.

You also work through the adaptive logic of the exam one-to-one: what a sudden jump in difficulty means, when to commit to an answer, and how to pace a section so the last item gets a real attempt.

Working one-to-one across time zones

Private students join Teachero from Europe, the Gulf, Africa, Turkey, Asia, North America and beyond. Because the sessions are individual, the plan is agreed with you before anything is paid, and because every session is uploaded the same day as a lesson recording you can review, you always have your own corrected work to go back to.

Teaching is in English, which is exam rehearsal in itself.

The Duolingo exam itself is booked separately with Duolingo, and your instructor will help you pick a date once your final mock says you are ready.

Comparing the three DET courses

The content is the same in all three. What the private course buys is individual time and tailoring, not different material.

Key DET facts

• Scale: 10–160 in 5-point steps, with 4 subscores (Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation, Production) and 4 skill scores (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking).
• Validity: 2 years.
• Length: the exam takes about an hour and adapts to your answers as you go.
• Acceptance: 6,000+ institutions worldwide, especially universities in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Ireland. It is not accepted for the Australian subclass 500 visa and it is not a UKVI SELT; Canada’s SDS route ended in November 2024, so the regular study permit applies and your institution decides the English evidence. • Typical targets: 95–105 for many bachelor programmes, 110–120 for most universities, 120–130 for competitive and graduate programmes.

Choosing your target score with your instructor

In one-to-one, the first session usually ends with a number written down, because everything after that is planned backwards from it.

Bring your university’s requirement to the assessment session, including any subscore minimum it sets, and the whole plan is built around that line rather than a generic syllabus.
